Limbaugh: Republican Bipartisanship Has One Goal….The Destruction Of Conservatism

United-We-Stand-BI happened to listen to Rush Limbaugh yesterday as he railed against the Republican party and specifically the leadership’s incomprehensible (to him) rush to the left. His rhetorical flourishes aside, he describes the situation accurately, but as I listened, I kept saying to myself (well, yelling it) “Where the fuck have you been?” Limbaugh is first and foremost an entertainer, and he must draw the audience to his show. So his careful criticism of the heavy hitters in the Republican party over the years has been moderated by his rational desire to maintain his brand. Antagonizing the Republican leadership (or the U.S. Chamber of Commerce..same thing) by calling them what they are — whores…and anti-American whores at that — will do him no good at all. He must dance on the line, but never cross it. So this monologue was gratifying to hear, but a bit late in the game…..

The spending caps that they negotiated with Obama? They’ve blown those up.  The one thing that they won, spending caps, they got rid of them themselves in this deal. I’m trying to understand, are they totally in debt to K Street?  Do they all have jobs waiting for them on K Street?  It doesn’t compute here.  Who are these people in the House Republican leadership?  What are they?  I’ll tell you what I’ve concluded, and it’s something that I have forecast before, mentioned before.  We’ve even discussed it on this program.

I think what’s going on in Washington right now — and it isn’t new, it’s just more visible than it’s ever been.  I think there’s all kinds of bipartisanship going on in Washington.  I think there’s all kinds of cooperation going on in Washington.  I think that it’s kumbaya time.  I think they are linked arm in arm.  I think the bipartisan project is to destroy conservatism.  I think they would be happy. They would prefer… I’m talking about the Republican leadership. Not the whole membership, but the Republican leadership.

To answer his rhetorical question: Yes, they do have lucrative jobs lined up on K Street and on corporate boards and the legal departments of major corporations and in think tanks and on and on…..

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

They have sacrificed their country and violated their oaths of office on the altar of personal gain. The truism, “There is no honor among thieves” may have been intended specifically for the United States Congress!

Perhaps some of our readers can explain how another part of our government, The United States Armed Forces, would respond to one of their members if he were to behave in a similar manner.

“I, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above….do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.”

I find it interesting that the oaths are essentially identical, yet we hold one branch to such high standards and the other to no standard whatsoever.

Well, the dead girl/live boy restriction still stands for those with an (R) next to their name….

  1. My impression is that Limbaugh is over-thinking this. It has far less to do with ideology than sucking up to those who can make you fat and happy. Do what Choom Boy and the Democrats want, and you’re set on the cocktail party/spiffs from the lobbyists/”fact-finding” trips/teevee face time circuit. They are, after all, right there with you, while your constituents are way back in that state you sometimes visit.

It’s simple greed, in other words. Given the choice between getting lots o’ Free Shit and actually having to work, members of Congress have opted for the lazy way out.

Democrats have made themselves into the Alpha Dogs of D.C. Republicans are the puppies that trail along behind. They have forgotten — if they ever knew — about the consequences of kowtowing to tyrants.

  2. Someone backed up a dump truck full of money to their house, and they threw their principles in the back when they were done unloading it.

  3. And yet, cash is so clearly a form of speech; restricting it is antithetical to our principles.

An ironclad prohibition on any post-politics career that involves lobbying in any form would be difficult to write, and difficult to police.

So, what is the answer? Term limits?

  4. CBD, given the current state of D.C. politics, I’d call for a 10-year, no-parole prison term for all elected officials after they leave office. After that, they’d be allowed to do whatever they want.

The problem: money is free speech, but when the Founders guaranteed that, they were expecting people in public office to have morals and principles. That might have been true — or at least largely so — in the 18th Century. It isn’t now.

  5. We’re halfway there: Federal prison terms do not (IIRC) make provision for parole. So if someone is sentenced to 10 years, he’s going to be out of circulation for 10.0000 years, good behavior notwithstanding.

  6. A sentiment I keep reading/hearing is that the “House leadership” is the problem. Rush did it in the excerpt above. It isn’t the House leadership that’s the problem, it is the moral-less members in the party that willingly follow these leaders that they installed to the position. Boehner was just the most charismatic thief among the thieves. Each beta thief could have voted against the budget. Blame belongs equally to each and every single member that voted for, or would have to ensure passage of, this graft. They need to be treated to the same condemning disdain the media received after the debate as they are no better. In fact, far far worse.

  7. Yes, Dogfish, there’s plenty of blame to go around. Certainly we would not have had Boner and Bitch McConnell to deal with if the “ordinary” Congresscrooks hadn’t voted them into their positions.

Nor could any of Choom Boy’s most destructive appointments, policies and squanderings have happened without most — or all — of the 535 lackwits there saying, “you go, Barack baby!”

It’s all a matter of simple greed: what am I going to get for letting Iran have nukes? It cannot be ideology, even for the Democrats. So it has to be simple bribery, in money, “services,” cocktail-party invites, or All of the Above.

In any case, offerers and receivers of bribes are guilty of felonies. Surely, we can find 536 jail cells somewhere….
