The genius of American Exceptionalism is the conscious rejection of the glacial pace of change in the Old World. Royalty was royalty; farmers were farmers; shopkeepers were shopkeepers; and there was very little movement between those rigidly defined classes. America was different. We disavowed monarchists; we set the stage for a truly equal society, and our only demand was that one embraced America as an ideal.
That never meant rejection of one’s origins. But it meant becoming an American. Was it effortless? No, of course not. We have had nativist tendencies off and on, and we fought a nasty war amongst ourselves just 85 years after we cast off the Old World. But there was nowhere better to start a new life and be judged according to what one did, not one’s genes.

What a marvelous success on the part of those who would destroy American Exceptionalism! Their politics of division is nowhere more evident in the definition of Blacks in America as a clump of melanin, nothing more. They recreated those divisions that we had carefully cast off, and in fact made them all-encompassing.
But it is a tool; to be used in furtherance of a political philosophy that disenfranchises all of us by denying our individualism and humanity. Just as unfettered democracy leads to the tyranny of the majority, so will the reduction of the individual into his color or sex or “gender” or ethnicity or whatever insane divisions the Left creates, destroy what makes America Exceptional: the smallest but most important unit of society.
