The Morning Report – 4/20/21 [J.J. Sefton]
Good morning kids. Tuesday and of course the big story is the verdict in the trial of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin over his involvement in the death of a black suspect – whose name will not be mentioned by me – who expired while resisting arrest. Despite the initial shock of the knee-on-the-neck video, the facts surrounding the case released only in dribs and drabs as Minneapolis and dozens of other urban areas across the land were torched and sacked in a wave of rioting and violence that was alternately described as justified or completely ignored and covered-up as such, would tend to exonerate Officer Chauvin, and never get to the point of his being charged with manslaughter.
But that is not what’s going on here. The issues and legitimate controversies and criticisms of policing while crucially important are not central to the crux of the biscuit in this discussion. This trial is about several things. First, Officer Chauvin (and now the 26-year female veteran cop in last week’s accidental yet wholly understandable shooting incident) are scapegoats. America as founded is in the dock. Forget about the verdict in the trial; Chauvin had to be put on trial since regardless of the actual circumstances of the incident, he committed the heinous “crime” killing a black man while being a white male cop. If you think that that’s ridiculous, and it is, get a load of this alarming statistic:
Those listed “Conservative” or “Very Conservative” guessed closest to the actual number.
The problem here is, these are not “wild conspiracy theories.” These are memes and propaganda being drilled into the minds of children by day in schools (or Zoom classes), reinforced by the media on the nightly news and now standard business practice across a wide swathe of corporate America and consumer brands. Lest we forget what they did to Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the aftermath of “hands up don’t shoot” Mike Brown. If Josef Goebbels were alive to see this, he’d pop a stiffie so hard he could run the Boston Marathon with it despite the club foot.
Second, Chauvin’s trial serves the purpose of abolishing police departments without having to go through any lengthy, messy legislative processes. I mean, you would have to be out of your mind to want to be police officer given not only the inherent danger of the job but the prospect of facing a public execution for just doing your job should you find yourself in a confrontation with a Horst Wessel of color. Lastly, and probably the most insidious aspect of this is to get the minds right of those who remain on the job. In the event of actual legitimate protests occur against, say, lockdowns or stolen elections and the BLaM-tifa black-clad brownshirts be called in for a bit of bovver, you’ll look the other way as more Ashli Babbitts get piled up like so much cordwood rather than intercede and risk your pension. Or you’ll go door to door to find curfew violators or vaccination refuseniks. Besides, you have to show that you reject your inherent white supremacy, right? After all, you’re just following orders.
In second guessing this whole horrendous thing, it would actually be to the advantage of the enemy if Derek Chauvin were acquitted. Wouldn’t a conviction disprove the meme that the justice system is rigged against colored people of color? Barack Obama was elected (in theory) twice in the hopes that it would close the civil rights era of “struggle” once and for all. I distinctly remember sitting at a dinner with an old liberal friend a month or so before the 2008 election who told me flat out that he was voting for Obama for no other reason than his being black and a black man should be president. How’d that work out for us?
