Attacker identified as UC Merced freshman

So they’ve now identified the hairball who stabbed four people at UC Merced:

The student has been identified as Faisal Mohammad, a freshman student from Santa Clara.

Faisal Mohammed? Oh. Mohammed factor 50%. Color me stunned.

And just for the record, I doubt very much that he’s from Santa Clara. Now I don’t know where he’s from, but strongly suspect he (or his immediate family) is from some Muslim hellhole, by way of Santa Clara, which is not the same thing at all. The media report things this way because they know that an article so written will not prompt demands to keep out people from Santa Clara.

This is my favorite part, though:

Wednesday’s stabbings marked another in a long string of recent violent incidents on college campuses across the country.

Oh, so regarding violent incidents, the pattern we’re seeing here, the common denominator, is “college campuses.” Not Muslims. No. Far from it. Ridiculous notion. It’s definitely college campuses. That’s the only pattern I see.

Now did our intrepid reporter ask any … um … awkward, but relevant questions? He did not. So let’s do that for him:

  1. What was young Mohammed’s motivation? “Investigators … were still trying to determine the motive for Mohammed’s attack.” Did our cub reporter do any digging on his own? No. Did any of his fellow students have anything relevant to say? No one asked them.
  2. What, if anything, did Mohammed say in the course of the attack? Did anyone happen to ask the survivors?
  3. What is Mohammed’s background, besides the dubious “he was from Santa Clara” assertion? That assertion reminds of the old SNL Conehead skit, where when people ask Dan Aykroyd’s character where the Coneheads are from, he tells them “France.”

This is a vignette of why so many distrust the media: they hide the ball to advance a political agenda. If the perpetrator of a heinous act is a minority, or a Democrat, you have to channel Sherlock Holmes or Miss Cleo to find that out from their “report.” If he’s white, or (God help us) conservative, that fact will appear in the headline, and will be underscored in about every third sentence in the article.

So, media, why are you dying? Look in the mirror.  Because your job in a democratic (small “d”) society is to report accurate information so the electorate can make informed decisions. (Yeah, I know, but that’s how it’s supposed to work.) It’s not to promulgate your own agenda under the pretext of reporting events. If every malefactor in the country turns out to be Muslim, or black, or Hispanic, or an illegal alien, or homosexual, or a leftist, or a Democrat, or a journalist (pardon the extensive overlap here), or whatever, report the full truth, whether or not you like that truth. We need to know if we have a problem so we can decide whether something needs to be done, and if so, what.

Update: apparently young Mohammed has been praised by ISIS.

‘May Allah accept him,’ read the tweet in Arabic just minutes after Mohammad’s name was divulged by campus authorities.

I didn’t know ISIS followed American campus violence so closely. Why would they find this of interest?

And the kicker?

Veryan Khan, of the Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium (TRAC), which monitors ISIS and other groups on social media, told Fox that ISIS had called for stabbings in recent days.

Totally a garden variety case of campus violence, and totally inexplicable. I pity the investigators trying to dope out his motivation. It’s a real “whowhydunnit.”

Update: in page 17 news, we now have some insight into Faisal Mohammed’s motivation, and in his handwritten manifesto mirabile dictu, he – get this – included “praise for Allah,” and a plan for beheading people, all according law to enforcement authorities, who insisted that neither terrorism nor religion appear to be motives in the attack.

No, of course not, obviously.

The classic pull quote:

“There was nothing to indicate he was doing this because of Allah, or because he was going to be rewarded with 72 virgins, or because of ties to a terror group,” Warnke said. “He appeared to be a devout Muslim, on the strong side of the belief.”

Do you guys need a picture book, perhaps, to decrypt this incidence of “campus violence?” It’s another crazed Muslim going (or attempting to go) on a murder spree. Why do you resist drawing the obvious conclusion that is right in front of your faces?

  1. I did notice that they don’t seem to be shouting “Tea Party!” as a first response anymore at least. I guess they realized it was getting ridiculous (are tea parties actually statistically under represented in violent crime? Like law and order actually *mean* something to them?). Of course, it’s not like anyone would believe a tea partier stabbed a bunch of people since knifing is just not an American cultural norm.

  2. “Police requested citizens (what, no non-citizens?) to be on the lookout for a man. If seen, call 555-1212.”
