  1. A friend of mine told me his story of coming to America when we were in The Corps together. He was young 4, 5, 6 doesn’t matter. He’s Mexican and he didn’t speak a word of english; however, his much older sister was already a US citizen married to a Texan. One day his sister told their mother, “*friends name* is better off with us, can we take him?” their mother agreed, because it was just a short trip over the border for mom to isit whenever she wanted.

One day my friend told me, their mother, who spoke broken english, would only speak spanish while at the dinner table, and my friends sister said, “Mom, you take him back to mexico and speak spanish, or you sit here, and learn english, He’s an American now.”

He’s PROUD of his mexican heritage, but the emotion he told that story to me one time was intense. He’s American, from Mexico, but he’s American, and he was a damn fine Marine.

  2. JJ, your entry at Ace is the first thing I turn to in the morning, every morning. Thank you for all the hard work you put into it and maintaining a high sense of humor at the same time. I wish you good health and continued success in the coming year.
